Job Description:
A Children & Young people Support Worker is responsible for assisting children and young people in their physical, emotional, social, and educational development. They work to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children/Young people can thrive and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Direct Care: Provide direct care and supervision to children and young people, ensuring their safety, well-being, and comfort.
2. Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and guidance to children and young people facing challenging situations or emotional difficulties.
3. Education and Development: Assist children & young people with homework, and educational activities, and encourage their cognitive and social development.
4. Safeguarding: Support workers must ensure the welfare and safety of children and young people they interact with.
5. Health and Hygiene: Ensure that children and young people maintain good personal hygiene and receive appropriate medical care when necessary.
6. Behaviour Management: Implement behaviour management techniques to promote positive behaviour and discipline when required.
7. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with children and young people, their families, and colleagues to ensure the best care and support.
8. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of each child's and young person's progress, incidents, and any relevant information.
9. Recreation and Activities: Plan and organize recreational activities, games, and outings to promote social interaction and physical fitness.
10. Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to handle emergency situations and crises, providing immediate assistance and reporting incidents to supervisors or authorities as necessary.
11. Teamwork: Collaborate with other professionals, such as teachers, social workers, and therapists, to provide comprehensive care and support to children.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Minimum experience of 6 months working with children and young people
* NVQ Level 2 Diploma in health and social care
* The right to work in the UK
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong commitment to providing high-quality care and support
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Certification in CPR and first aid may be required.
* Experience working with children, especially in childcare or youth services settings.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well-being of children.
* Knowledge of child development and behaviour management techniques.
