Five Education requires a one-to-one Learning Support Assistant to work within a Special Education Needs base in a mainstream primary school in Taunton. This school has a strong caring ethos towards staff and pupils. They need dedicated people to join their staff team, to work with their pupils in a supportive role.
The Learning Support Assistant role requires someone who is patient but also adaptable, hard-working and determined. Previous experience working in schools is desirable, but not essential.
The TA will work 1:1 with children who have SEN (Special Educational Needs) and SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) needs. Therefore, if your career background is in care or support work, then we can discuss your transferable skills. Children at this school may have ADHD, ASC (Autism) and Learning Difficulties.
The person chosen will be able to work the school hours (8:30-15:30) 5 days a week. They will establish rapport quickly with children and be willing to learn about SEND teaching techniques.
If you can show the resilience to keep trying with children who find school challenging, then we want to hear from you. Please get in touch for an informal chat.
Main duties:
1. Be a positive role model to the pupil, helping them to make progress in their social development.
2. Help the pupil to remain 'on-task' with the learning activity.
3. Provide support to the pupil during the lesson, ensuring the tasks are differentiated to meet the pupil's learning ability and SEND needs.
4. Re-affirm the school's expectations of behaviour and effort.
5. Work closely with the teaching staff to ensure all lesson objectives and personal goals are achieved.
