This role is to provide CAD (Computer Aided Design) specialist technical services in the way of 2D & 3D modelling & drawing production using a range of Bentley CAD products including AECOsim, Microstation & Project Wise.
Key Accountabilities
1. Adheres to corporate governance & internal standards as well as recognised industry standards & best practices.
2. Provides internal stakeholders with appropriate information to inform design decisions and provides professional advice to support the delivery of high quality, tested engineering solutions.
3. Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation applicable to their discipline or functional specialism.
4. Evaluates, selects and applies appropriate solutions to low risk/value/complexity engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
5. Makes technical recommendations for own discipline or functional specialism to customers or senior management to inform technical decision making.
6. Supports continuous improvement through the use of best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis.
Key Interfaces
1. Engineering Delivery Lead - Accountable to delivering engineering services through to the Customer.
2. Senior Engineering Leader (for CAD) - Escalation of Technical issues requiring their Authority or for further escalation.
3. Principle Engineers/Senior Engineers - Providing engineering services as part of an engineering team.
4. Engineer – Providing engineering design solutions & recommendations through to the Customer.
5. Project Managers - on behalf of the Head of Engineering Delivery, providing engineering services to a project manager.
Knowledge
1. Basic understanding of the challenges of introducing new assets or changes in practice into the transport system and the necessary trade-off between cost, time and quality.
2. Good knowledge of a relevant engineering discipline or functional specialism.
3. Basic understanding of the interfaces between own discipline / functional specialism and the wider transport system.
4. Basic understanding of the principles of risk management and value engineering.
5. Basic knowledge of applicable health & safety legislation, industry best practice, standards and guidance.
6. Basic knowledge of the TfL Vision, Mayoral Transport Strategy, Business priorities and financial constraints.
7. Good knowledge of Bentley Microstation, AECOSim & Project Wise.
8. Good multidisciplinary engineering knowledge.
9. Good practical knowledge in producing & maintaining BIM level 2 compliant models.
Experience
1. In the production of 3D BIM models & the extraction of metadata.
2. Working within a CDE (Common Data Environment) & having to interface with multiple designers on a project.
3. Applying professional engineering judgement to support low risk / complexity projects or operational activities.
4. Building relationships with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
5. Working within the rail engineering sector, delivering complex designs for various scale projects.
