Colorectal Enhanced Recovery Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7
The Enhanced Recovery CNS works to improve the patient experience for individuals undergoing major abdominal colorectal surgery. This primarily includes a caseload of colorectal cancer patients and the postholder will work as part of the wider team of Colorectal Macmillan Nursing team. In addition to promoting and applying the principles of the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) programme, the postholder will be responsible for contributing to the inpatient care of this cohort of patients and to their post-operative follow up. We are currently working with our Anaesthetics team developing a prehabilitation programme for patients undergoing major surgery. The aim of the post is to improve patient outcomes through streamlined patient flow, reduced length of stay, and ensuring patients are active participants in the recovery process. You will work as a member of the cancer nursing team, within the Corporate directorate at Croydon University hospital.

Main duties of the job
The aim of the enhanced recovery programme is to improve patient outcomes through streamlined patient flow, reduced length of stay, and ensuring patients are active participants in their own recovery process. The post holder is responsible for the continued development and coordination of the perioperative care of patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. This includes enhanced recovery and prehabilitation pathways and aims to ensure the principles of high quality and evidence based patient care. The post holder will work alongside other Trust services, providing clinical expertise to advise and deliver effective, sustainable enhanced recovery pathways.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse level 1.
* First degree in Nursing or health related subject.
* Working towards/ willing to work towards relevant Masters level studies.
* Advanced Communication Skills Training.
Knowledge and Understanding
* Proven experience of surgical experience (band 6 or above).
* Sound knowledge of NHS operational and strategic issues and their impact on Enhanced Recovery Programme.
* Knowledge of MDT working.
* Experience of prioritising and managing multiple projects to deadline.
* Knowledge of colorectal cancer.
* Knowledge and application of management and leadership themes.
Clinical Skills
* Demonstrates up to date, evidenced based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Able to take accountability for service delivery within a context of safe patient care.
* Able to chair, co-ordinate and facilitate meetings.
Skills (analytical and judgemental)
* Ability to synthesise complex facts or situations requiring analysis, formulating and mentoring delivery plans.
* Evidence of adopting problem solving approaches to complex issues and situations.
* Experience of audit and other benchmarking strategies, using the result of interim change and improvement.
Planning and organisational
* Plan and organise across a broad range of complex activities, formulating and adjusting plans as required.
* Able to take responsibility for policy implementation and service development. Proven track record of ability to co-ordinate the work of the multidisciplinary team and lead on any actions required.
