About the Role
A high-growth Software company is seeking an Engineering Director to lead its engineering team through an exciting transformation. This is more than just a leadership role - it's a chance to unify a talented group of engineers, guiding them as they shift from a traditional Waterfall approach to a fully Agile, SaaS, product-led mindset. As the trusted right hand to the CTO, your role is to inspire, mentor, and empower, ensuring that everyone is rowing in the same direction towards innovation and excellence.
The Journey Ahead
This is a team brimming with potential, but change can be daunting. Your mission is to bring them together, fostering a shared vision where Agile isn't just a methodology - it's a mindset. You will instill a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring that engineers feel invested in the journey and confident in the direction the company is taking.
Your Role in Steering the Ship
1. Inspiring Leadership & Team Unity
• Lead, mentor, and support multiple cross-functional squads, ensuring they are aligned and motivated (circa 40+).
• Cultivate an environment where engineers feel valued, heard, and empowered to contribute to the company's vision.
• Champion transparency, accountability, and a culture of learning to create a high-performing, engaged team.
• Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent, ensuring each person has a clear growth path.
2. Guiding the Agile Transformation
• Drive the transition from Waterfall to Agile, fostering excitement rather than resistance.
• Provide hands-on guidance in Agile best practices, ensuring teams understand not just the "how" but also the "why."
• Serve as a bridge between engineering and the broader business, ensuring alignment and collaboration.
• Encourage experimentation and iterative development, helping engineers embrace change as an opportunity, not a disruption.
3. Building a Scalable Future
• Establish technical guardrails that balance agility with stability, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Identify and proactively address technical and operational risks in collaboration with the CTO.
• Help guide strategic architectural decisions, ensuring they align with the long-term vision.
• Stay ahead of industry trends, helping the company leverage the latest innovations.
4. Delivering Excellence
• Work closely with the executive team to define and execute an ambitious yet achievable product roadmap.
• Oversee project execution with a sharp focus on quality, efficiency, and impact.
• Measure success through clear KPIs and use data-driven insights to refine approaches.
• Drive a relentless focus on improving processes, ensuring teams can deliver their best work.
About You
1. A passionate leader who thrives on bringing teams together towards a common goal.
2. Experienced in leading engineering teams through significant transitions, particularly Agile adoption.
3. Technically credible, with a background in software development that earns the respect of engineers (ideally Visual Studio/C#).
4. A natural communicator who can articulate vision and strategy in an inspiring way.
5. Committed to fostering an environment where innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning thrive.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a growing Software business, not just by setting strategy, but by building a culture where engineers feel excited, engaged, and driven to succeed. If you're ready to lead this transformation towards a product led, SaaS environment, and make a lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you.
