Role purpose / summary We are seeking an experienced Wintel Server Engineer to join our team, responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Windows server environments to ensure system reliability, security, and optimal performance. This role requires expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and VMware, with a focus on troubleshooting, incident response, and proactive improvements. Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time. If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including: identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service) Your role The Wintel Server Engineer will install, configure, and support Windows servers in both physical and virtualized environments. This role will ensure system integrity by conducting regular maintenance, performance tuning, and applying patches and updates. The Engineer will manage Active Directory (AD), Group Policies, and ensure the integrity of AD replication. They will oversee DHCP and DNS services, ensuring availability and security, and manage user permissions, server access, and file/folder permissions in line with security policies. The Engineer will lead incident response and troubleshooting for high-priority (P1 and P2) and escalated incidents, documenting solutions in the incident management system. Working closely with internal teams, they will contribute to problem management processes by conducting root-cause analysis to prevent incident recurrence and improve system resilience. This role requires coordinating with 3rd-party vendors for hardware support, firmware updates, and managing physical and virtual servers for optimized performance. The Engineer will support the team in backup and recovery processes, ensuring that server and data recovery procedures are robust and effective. They will contribute to performance, capacity, and compliance reporting, and maintain accurate documentation of configurations, changes, and operational procedures. Your skills and experience Proven experience in Windows Server (2016, 2019) administration and troubleshooting in an enterprise environment Strong expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) Familiarity with backup and recovery solutions, patch management, and security compliance Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to work well under pressure and collaborate effectively within a team environment Your security clearance To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
