The post offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated clinician to join a dynamic team delivering a Microbiology and Virology service through active clinical liaison in NHS Grampian. This post provides an opportunity for candidates who wish to work on a part-time basis and will be primarily based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The successful candidate will join a team of 6 other Consultants in a site accredited for training.
This post comprises of a 9 PA post with 1 PA for on-call work (36 hours per week), contributing to a 1 in 7 out-of-hours rota. This is a permanent post.
It is expected that the post holder would have a minimum of 4 PAs dedicated to Virology.
The Department in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary provides a comprehensive diagnostic Microbiological Service including Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Serology, and Molecular components. Over 500,000 samples are processed annually. A National Services Division-funded extended susceptibility testing for multi-resistant Gram-negative isolates from cystic fibrosis patients around Scotland is also based within the department. The Virology Department provides extensive serology and molecular service that has been recently upgraded to cope with the NHSG response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Located in the North East of Scotland, Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly, and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline. The successful candidate will be joining a large Medical Microbiology Department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services, and, as a teaching hospital department, there is strong involvement in a wide range of educational activities.
Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
