Youth & Community Team Leader, Yeovil Who we are? YMCA Brunel Group is an independent, locally governed and managed charity operating in Mendip, Bath, Bristol, Wiltshire and South Somerset. We are part of the international YMCA movement. Our mission is to create supportive, inclusive and energising communities, where people can truly belong, contribute and thrive. Our activities include: A ccommodation for over 700 people every year who are at risk of being homeless, who are on low incomes, experience barriers to work, or young people in need of high levels of support, who have often experienced trauma and difficult times in their lives. We don’t just provide a bed, we support people holistically and continually seek to help our residents gain the training, skills and confidence to lead independent lives. A Health & Wellbeing centre in Bath, a community facility with a fully kitted out gym, functional fitness areas and extensive class programme. Two commercial hostels in Bath and Bristol which help us cover our central costs. Twelve youth clubs for young people aged 10-19, including 4 young carers groups, providing a space where they can have dedicated time to talk to trusted youth workers, access relevant information about issues that concern them, and develop their social networks. Eight Ofsted registered Nurseries, providing spaces for up to 360 children where they are given opportunities and experiences that will set them up for their educational journeys and prepare them for their lives ahead. What does the job entail? Our aim is for all our young people to have ambition for themselves, to be confident individuals, effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens; and to be nurtured, safe, active, healthy, achieving, included, respected and responsible in their communities. We want to encourage young people to connect creatively with their community and learn how to become better neighbours through that connection To enable accessibility to a range of services and provision for young people in an informal, welcoming environment specifically designed for them; bringing together a range of information, advice, guidance, learning and social opportunities, with a main focus on open access sessional youth work in the locality. To provide a safe welcoming fun environment for young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 Special educational needs and disabilities) accessing the youth club, to design deliver and evaluate a range of informal learning opportunities To support young people’s creativity, so they have opportunities to try new things and are inspired and encouraged in their creativity to develop hobbies that last a lifetime. To enable the development and continuation of young people’s Steering Groups at the youth club and supporting young people to take up volunteering opportunities within the youth club. Proactively forge link with local schools, to support early intervention for the safety and wellbeing of young people. To recognise and identify relevant trends, issues and opportunities through the youth work with young people and the community. To assess if there are potential opportunities that could develop into short term or long term funded or commissioned work. To provide that information to Director of Youth and Community so the information helps shape the youth and community strategic plan and increases the sustainably of the service through the development of funded and commissioned work. To prioritise and manage your workload effectively and realistically within the contracted hours of the post. It is expected that the provision will evolve to meet the changing needs of young people and a dynamic, motivating individual is needed to enable this.
