Job summary
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Pharmacy Technician to join our Medicines Management Team at Ascent PCN. We are a supportive, proactive PCN with a proud history of developing our clinical team. We serve around 35,000 patients across three sites: Asplands Medical Centre, Fishermead Medical Centre, and Walnut Tree Health Centre. Our MDT approach offers a wide range of services including physiotherapy, minor surgery, joint injections, health coaching, occupational therapy, mental health support, and social prescribing. Ascent PCN comprises three Milton Keynes GP surgeries providing diverse health services tailored to our community.
The Medicines Management Team plays a vital role, with members at each practice supporting daily operations and the PCN's proactive and preventative care agenda. The Pharmacy Technician will support the team in delivering services across all three practices.
Main duties of the job
1. Medicines reconciliation following hospital discharge and from clinic letters
2. Handling medication-related queries and stock checks, including managing alternatives
3. Processing prescription queries and reauthorisations
4. Conducting clinical audits and monitoring patient medicines safety
This is a new role within the PCN, and the successful candidate will have a key role in shaping its future.
Person Specification
Experience (Essential):
* Previous experience in general practice, hospital, or community pharmacy
* Knowledge of medicines, including handling hazardous substances
* Ability to work independently
Experience (Desirable):
* Familiarity with SystmOne
* Supervisory experience within a pharmacy setting
* Training or mentoring experience for new staff
Qualifications (Essential):
* Qualified Pharmacy Technician
* Registered with GPhC
Qualifications (Desirable):
* CPPE training relevant to general practice
Skills (Essential):
* Proficient in IT, e.g., Microsoft Office
* Strong communication skills, capable of handling difficult conversations
* Ability to counsel patients on medication use
* Accurate and detail-oriented
* Effective verbal and written communication
* Work efficiently under pressure
* Adherence to standard operating procedures
* Systematic work approach with workload re-prioritisation skills
