Background
Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd, known as BEP Group, is a registered Charity. We deliver a work experience service for schools across East London and Essex for children aged between 14 and 19 and run an alternative education independent school for children who have been partly or completely removed from mainstream school (or who are at risk of becoming NEET).
Purpose
Located at our Romford school site, you will be teaching GCSE or Entry Level maths to young people aged 13-16. You will be reporting to the Vice Principal (Teaching and Learning Manager) and a group of Tutors. Students are referred to our school by local authorities and local secondary schools and are often challenging (academically and/or behaviourally). You will take an active role in helping to equip students with the skills they will require as they transfer to the world of work.
Key Responsibilities
1. Delivering Maths (Entry Level and GCSE) to small groups of students (normally a maximum of twelve).
2. Working with other tutors and the Vice Principal to develop schemes of work and lesson plans.
3. Marking work and assessments within the Maths team.
4. Developing relationships and offering support to challenging students in order for them to achieve.
5. Liaising with colleagues to monitor student progress, behaviour, and attendance.
6. Keeping up-to-date registers on attendance and progress and ensuring that information on student progress is tracked in the database.
7. Producing individual learning plans and setting appropriate targets.
8. Attending meetings with parents and schools as required.
9. Being familiar with and following the company code of conduct for student behaviour (and applying disciplinary procedures evenly).
Other Responsibilities
1. Preparing reports for your line manager, students, and parents as required.
2. Attending meetings and keeping records, as appropriate (may involve some unsocial hours).
3. Being familiar with the Health and Safety Policy and ensuring that high standards of Health and Safety are observed, including when working off-site and/or within other institutions.
4. Being familiar with the Equal Opportunities Policy and putting it into practice.
Person Specification
1. Experience in tutoring GCSE Maths and/or Entry Level Maths.
2. Hold one of the following qualifications: DET, Cert Ed, QTS / QTLS.
3. Ability to form productive relationships with young people who can be among the more challenging.
4. Good team working skills.
5. A flexible approach to both delivery and working methods/regime.
6. High level of ICT skills (MS Office including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
7. Ability to plan and prepare training sessions.
8. Ability to deliver projects to time and on target.
9. Ability to work and prioritise in an organised manner.
10. High motivation and the ability to take initiatives.
11. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Terms & Conditions
Responsible to: Vice Principal, Teaching and Learning
Hours: Term time - 39 weeks, plus 8 holiday INSET days.
* Monday to Thursday 8:30 to 16:30
* Tuesday - 8:30 to 17:00
* Friday - 8:30 to 16:00
(Contact with students 9.25 to 14.50)
Holiday entitlement: 20 days to be taken during school holidays plus bank holidays (5.6 weeks).
Salary Range: Negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications:
Tutor Salary Range (AET, PTLLS): £25,680 to £32,614.
Plus: Workplace pension, free parking, funded training for professional qualifications.

Requirements

4. Ability to create an inclusive learning environment that caters to diverse learning styles.
5. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed academically.
6. Relevant qualifications in education or a related field would be advantageous but not essential.
