What skills and experience we're looking for
You must hold QTS and be an experienced teacher. We are seeking a passionate primary-trained teacher looking to make a real difference in pupils' learning. Your specialism must be in English in order to best support our pupils, bridging the gap between primary and secondary curriculum. You should be ambitious both for pupils and the department, but be flexible and use creative teaching strategies to engage and inspire pupils. You should be able to work collaboratively with other departments and, being able to deliver a second subject within our curriculum, would be an advantage.

The Island Free School is a small, successful secondary school (11-16) based in Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Our school opened in 2014 and has been heavily over-subscribed ever since. We are committed to providing the best possible allround education for the children of our Island.

Purpose:
• To plan and deliver lessons that raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement, within the subjects taught, in line with national and school expectations.
• Lead our one-hour communication studies lessons for KS3 pupils. This hour is dedicated to developing pupils’ presentation oracy and understanding of a diverse range of topics.
• Support small groups of KS4 pupils in English language skills working at GCSE Grade 1 and 2
● To be creative in your delivery of the lessons to engage pupils and develop essential skills, to get the best results
