The Quality and Patient Safety Analyst is required to work within the corporate patient safety team to:
1. Support good data quality and completeness within source systems.
2. Work with Performance and Digital Services colleagues to ensure data flows into Trust data warehouses.
3. Develop reporting solutions, both regular and ad-hoc, for the Quality & Patient safety team, and relevant staff within divisions.
4. Support wider reporting of Quality data including month-end Performance to Trust committees and Trust Board, and external returns.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
* Interprets complex data from source systems and develops data structures to support reporting.
* Manages own workload with minimal supervision.
* Works cooperatively within the corporate Patient Safety Team to support and maintain and enhance existing reporting, including time-critical and ad hoc requirements.
* Works independently on the development and innovation of new reporting solutions.
* Leads on the supervision of data and reporting processes. Acts independently in the troubleshooting and rectification of any issues.
* Uses a good understanding of NHS reporting to deliver both nationally prescribed and locally agreed requirements in the hospital Trust.
* Is able to use a flexible approach to absorb unplanned reporting tasks.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
* Evidence of CPD.
* GCSE O level or equivalent in Maths at Grade C or above.
Skills and abilities
* The ability to analyse, model and interpret data.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office, especially Excel.
* Proficient in analytical and numerical skills to present complex information appropriately.
* Proven problem-solving skills - ability to review processes and systems, and develop solutions to resolve issues.
* Clear and effective presentation skills, both oral and written.
* A high level of IT and mathematical skills.
* Logical and creative thinking skills.
* The ability to define goals, act and plan independently to ensure achievement of deadlines.
* Proven ability and interest in quickly acquiring new skills and understanding new systems.

* Understanding of NHS data flows, patient activity information, statutory data requirements and data definitions, and their implementation in a comparable working environment.

* Operational experience of data extraction from digital systems, conducting comprehensive data analyses and supporting the interpretation of results in clear and meaningful reports.
* Experience of communicating and presenting data in a range of easy-to-understand formats, to a range of staff.
* Knowledge of data quality standards and improvement strategies.
* Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams and managers.
* Experience in using MS software e.g., Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook/Access and data processing applications.
* Experience of using incident reporting and risk management systems.
* Knowledge of the NHS and of hospital Patient Administration Systems.
* Experience of communicating and presenting data in a range of easy-to-understand formats to patients/families/carers and local communities.
