The role:
Fugro is now recruiting for a Fitting Technician Apprentice to join our team in Falmouth, Cornwall. This is an exciting opportunity that will allow you to develop your skills through various interesting and diverse activities and projects.
* As a Fitting apprentice with Fugro, you will be an integral part of the team, working in a fast-moving environment with an experienced team who will support and mentor you to achieve your qualification and develop your career
* From our Falmouth Hub, we design, build, and operate bespoke over water drilling equipment and you will have opportunities to gain first-hand experience both in the workshop and field to see our equipment in action hand to fully understand its purpose and enhance your knowledge
* You will work closely with the Workshop and Production Manager, Workshop Supervisors, Design Engineers, and Project Manager to assist in the design and build of equipment
* You will also assist in maintaining existing Fugro Plant as well as carry out the manufacture of new build equipment in the workshop facility. Plant must be fit for purpose to eliminate any HSEQ issues and reduce site down time
Who we’re looking for:
As an Apprentice within Fugro we are giving you the exciting opportunity to develop start your career within Engineering.
* The successful candidate must have a willingness to learn and develop into the role
* An interest/previous experience in Engineering (Mechanical/Hydraulic) would be a bonus
* You will be working with a team of engineers and have excellent communication skills, verbal and written are imperative
* We are looking for passionate Apprentices that have a positive can-do attitude with the ability to work in a busy workshop environment
* The Fitting Technician Apprentice will need to hold a Minimum GCSE in English, maths and Science

* Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
* Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
* Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
* Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
* Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
* Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
* Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
* Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
* Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
* Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
* Reporting work outcomes or issues.
* Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
* Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
* Operating within limits of responsibility.
* Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

Your training plan
* You will be working towards a Level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship standard
* You will need to attend Cornwall College Camborne one day per week
* You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and your employer

Other requirements
Previous apprentices have won local & national awards and are coached and encouraged to become future leaders within the business. Future career progression through the business. Previous experience or interest in any of the areas is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided by us and the College. Apprentices are taken out of there comfort zone and we see how they adapt and work under pressure when we feel the time is right.
