Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Assistant Transport Manager will be responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team, and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget/forecast expectations.
Working hours: 4 on 4 off nights, 19.00-07.00 (average of 38.5 weekly hours).
Salary: £38,000 per annum.
Key Duties of an Assistant Transport Manager:
* Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels.
* Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, in conjunction with other Culina depots.
* Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource.
* Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
* Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment.
* Ensure that the Transport team complies with all relevant statutes and regulations.
* Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers regarding control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre-loading.
* Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices.
* Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time.
* Monitor, audit, and control suppliers.
* Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
* Support communication throughout the department, including team briefings and publication of KPIs.
* Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
* Generate and implement ideas regarding staff and operational changes to drive continuous improvement.
* Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
* Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspects of the Transport Budget, including various KPIs and costs.
* Support the company in reducing its carbon footprint, e.g., reducing road miles.
* Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in a similar position.
* Supervisory/management experience within an FMCG environment.
* Genuine team player, a confident manager skilled at setting objectives and motivating teams.
* Significant knowledge of tachograph/driving rules and regulations.
* Strong planning, organising, and numeracy skills.
* Problem-solving skills in a pressurised environment.
* Effective communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Able to thrive in a competitive and demanding environment.
