Are you skilled in wet trades, especially plastering and looking for an exciting new challenge? We are looking to recruit a Wet Trade Operative to join our in-house Repairs Team. We are looking for someone who has experience in wet trades with predominantly plastering qualifications and other building maintenance skills. Working within the Repairs team, you will be expected to develop, learn and share knowledge, have a flexible approach and be an integral part of Taff's team. We offer ongoing training and support that will enhance your skills and knowledge.

THE ROLE
Role title: Wet Trade Operative Responsible to: Repairs Team Leader Team: Repairs Team
What you’ll do…
As a wet trade operative, you will be working with a labourer to carry out essential damp, ground and other associated works to provide our tenants with safe and dry homes. You will ensure that repair issues are resolved efficiently and effectively. You will also work closely with the Repairs Team Leader and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
What you will be responsible for?
1. Carry out damp works to include removal of render, tanking, mould eradication and painting.
2. Diagnose and repair issues related to dampness in residential properties, including rising damp, condensation, and penetrating damp.
3. Carry out internal and external plastering, including patching, skimming, and full replastering of affected areas.
4. Apply damp-proofing treatments, membranes, and other waterproofing methods to prevent future damp issues.
5. Conduct repairs to external brickwork, rendering, and other structures to prevent damp penetration.
6. Ensure all work is carried out in line with current health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
7. Carry out additional general maintenance work such as footpaths, fencing, roof tiling and guttering.
8. Carry out repair job assessments (inspections), identifying the repair to be completed and materials required to complete the repair task.
9. Participate in the repairs and maintenance out-of-hours emergency service when required.
10. To work regularly alone in or around customers’ homes, void properties or other similar sites.
11. To work occasionally at heights from scaffold platforms, ladders or mechanical equipment. (Pasma training provided)
12. To carry out minor asbestos repairs (CATB training provided).
13. Responsible for the safe use of a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out.
14. Maintain the optimum level of material van stocks to maximise the opportunity to complete the repair task on the first visit to the property.
15. To develop and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues in the team and across the association.
THE PERSON
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
1. NVQ Level 2/3 in a relevant trade (e.g., plastering or bricklaying) or equivalent qualification.
2. At least 3 years’ experience of working as a maintenance bricklayer/plasterer in the building trade with additional multi-trade skills.
3. Proven experience in damp works and general wet trades, preferably within social housing or a similar environment.
4. Strong understanding of damp causes, prevention techniques, and relevant building regulations.
5. Proactive approach to identifying and resolving damp-related issues.
6. Ability to record detailed and accurate repair information relating to repair inspections or completed repair jobs.
7. High knowledge and understanding of health and safety standards.
8. Skilled in wet trade activities such as plastering, bricklaying, and concrete.
9. A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
10. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with complex repairs.
11. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
12. Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out.
13. Familiarity with property maintenance and repairs within the social housing sector, including understanding of health and safety regulations, Renting Homes Act (2016).

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Annual salary: £31,568
Contract type: Permanent
Working Week: 40 hours a week – Monday 8:00am-5:00pm, Tuesday - Thursday 8:30am-5:00pm & Friday 8:00am-4:00pm
Location: Based at Head Office at Alex House, Canton, Cardiff CF5 1JD, working at our properties within the Cardiff area
