AFTER SCHOOL CLUB LEADER (Maternity cover)
JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Woodford Community Pre-School is currently seeking an After School Club Leader to cover maternity leave.
HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday 3pm – 5.45pm during term time.
This is a Fixed-Term position to cover maternity, subject to a three month probationary period.
PAY:
£12.61 per hour.
REPORTS TO:
Pre-School Manager
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Childcare. Previous experience working in an after-school club desirable.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To organise and supervise the After School Club and ensure the safe and appropriate supervision of primary school age children whilst in our care.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
* To supervise and assist the staff at the After School Club.
* Prepare the After School Club activities, ensuring high standards are met.
* Keep a register of children attending and carry out any administrative duties in accordance with the role such as medical issues, updating parents details etc.
* Interact positively with children to encourage them to engage in meaningful and constructive activities and to deal with any emergencies that may occur.
* To stimulate, encourage and develop children’s play in a positive way enabling them to play appropriately and creatively, individually or in groups.
* Organise and plan play and art activities, reading and homework support if required.
* Establish good relationships with children – interact positively, encouraging co-operation and mutual support, monitor children’s well-being and provide help and support to children.
* Encourage good behaviour by using praise and reward and taking action in line with our policies and procedures.
* Ensure health and safety of children – maintain a register of children attending, control access to areas within the building, administer basic first aid, record all injuries in the accident or incident book, ensure children understand action to be taken in case of fire.
* Attend and participate in staff meetings as required and participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
* Be aware of and comply with Policies and Procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to the Safeguarding Officer.
* Be aware of and support difference and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
* Attend to the personal, social and emotional needs of individual children, together with any other special requirements and, depending on the nature of a pupil’s special needs, make these part of the play experience wherever necessary.
Essential Knowledge:
* Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and relevant legislation.
* Commitment to and understanding of Equal Opportunities.
* Basic understanding of child development and learning.
* Knowledge of Ofsted requirements, the EYFS and other quality indicators.
Essential skills and Abilities:
* Confidence in dealing with young people, maintaining discipline motivation and ensuring well-being of children.
* Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Work as part of a team.
* Good communication between children and parents.
DATA PROTECTION
Be aware of responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1984 for the security, accuracy and relevance of personal data held and ensure that any administration and financial processes comply with this. Maintain records and archive systems in accordance with pre-school policy, procedure, and statutory requirements.
CONFIDENTIALITY
You will be expected to treat all information acquired through your employment both formally and informally, in strict confidence. Any breach of Woodford Community Pre-School’s confidentiality policy will be subject to disciplinary investigation. There are also internal procedures in place for employees to raise matters of concern regarding such issues as bad practice of mismanagement.
