The University of Winchester has recently brought together a number of separate academic departments into new, larger departments to maximise their potential for growth and success. As part of this, we are pleased to announce a series of exciting Head of Department vacancies which offer the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of our University and in line with our institutional values.
Our new Head of Department (HoD) roles will be responsible for integrating the various disciplines within their departments to encourage a collaborative way of working that helps to unlock the potential of their teams to continue to provide a superb student experience for all of our students, whilst simultaneously providing strategic leadership to drive our sustainable growth agenda.
Through role modelling our values and working closely with your Dean, you will help to drive the future sustainability of our institution and drive the agenda for the University to be the place to become.
We are currently recruiting for three heads of department across three of our faculties:
1. Faculty of Business and Digital Technologies
o Department of Finance and Computer Science
Including the disciplines: Computer Science; Cyber Security; Software Engineering; Economics and Accounting.
2. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
o School of Psychology and Social Sciences
Including the disciplines: Psychology, Geography; Sociology; Politics; and Animal Welfare.
3. Faculty of Law, Crime and Justice
o Department of Policing, Criminology and Forensics
Including the disciplines: Criminology; Policing and Forensics.
Selection process
This will consist of an online application where you will be able to upload your CV and answer our values-based question.
If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to complete a short pre-assessment exercise which focuses on the commercial aspects of the role. This will be considered alongside the output to your assessment on the day.
The day itself will be a half day assessment centre (on campus) consisting of a competency-based interview, leadership exercise and commercial acumen exercise. You will be assessed against the key essential criteria detailed in the job description.

The indicative dates of assessment will be held over two days:
Assessment date 1 28th February, morning
Assessment date 2 28th February, afternoon
Assessment date 3 3rd March, morning
Assessment date 4 3rd March, morning
