To provide administrative assistance and support across the Merton Community Dietetic service.
To work independently under the supervision of Specialist Dietitians to undertake clinical and administrative tasks to support the development and delivery of community-based dietetic services.
To be responsible for organising own delegated clinical workload and administrative tasks and activities and to be flexible to the needs of the service.
To work within an agreed framework for dealing with routine and urgent clinical problems/interactions, face to face or on the telephone, seeking guidance from the Dietitians to agree action outside the framework.
To communicate in an effective and timely way with accurate message taking from clients, carers, Dietitians and other healthcare professionals with clear record keeping and dissemination of information to relevant staff.
To support Dietitians in delivery of training activities, as required.
To support the Dietitian in the future developments and co-ordination of a variety of Nutrition and Dietetic work stream initiatives for example MUST training programmes, low FODMAP Groups.
To participate in clinical governance activities within the Nutrition and Dietetics Service.
To be responsible for undertaking basic clinical investigations following agreed protocols such as height, weight, calculating BMI, MUST scores, body composition and waist circumference.
To record client’s anthropometric measurements and other relevant details using standard recording procedure and adhering to department standards (as directed by the Nutrition Team).
To manage a caseload of patients in the community requiring weight checks under the direction of a Senior Dietitian.
To review client’s compliance with dietetic advice previously given and goal achievement under the supervision of the Dietitian.
To provide appropriate first line advice as agreed with line manager to clients, carers, nursing staff, medical staff and other health care professionals.
To support clients in accessing different professionals and agencies by listening to requests or issues and directing them appropriately.
Communicating with patients, carers and health care professionals to ensure nutritional requirements are assessed and addressed.
To be responsible for liaising with GPs, Practice Nurses and other Health Care Professionals to collect all relevant medical, biochemical and social information prior to dietetic intervention.
