We are currently looking for our future Production Planner who will be based in Wabtec, Burton on Trent. Who will you be working with? You will be reporting to the Head of Operations. How will you make a difference? As a Production Planner you will be responsible for developing and managing production schedules to ensure the efficient overhaul of engines, transmissions, and Power Packs for passenger rail customers. This role involves coordinating with multiple departments to optimize workflow, ensure timely delivery, and maintain high-quality standards. What do we want to know from you? - Promote a positive health and safety culture, meet all obligations, and report any concerns, hazards, accidents, or incidents promptly. - Develop and maintain detailed production schedules from receipt to delivery, coordinating activities across various departments. - Coordinate departmental activities: Oversee Raft Strip, Engine Strip, Transmission Strip, Radiator Clean and Test, Fuel Pump Strip, Clean, Rebuild, and Test, Hydraulic Pump Strip, Clean, Rebuild, and Test, Precision Machine Shop, Reclamation Machine Shop, Component Clean and Validation, Material Kitting, Power Pack Assembly, Engine Assembly, Transmission Assembly, Paint, and Final Test. - Prepare and present regular reports on production performance and schedule adherence. - Monitor labour availability and utilisation to ensure optimal productivity and conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions. - Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Quality Control, and Logistics to ensure smooth production processes and compliance with safety and quality standards. - Adjust schedules as necessary to address delays or issues, analyse production data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. - Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders to provide updates on production status and manage finished stock inventory levels to ensure availability. - Fluent English (writing, reading, speaking, listening). What will your typical day look like? - Proven experience in production planning, preferably in an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of production processes and supply chain management. - Knowledge of Lean Management principles and proficiency in production planning software and tools. - Advanced user of MS Excel, MS Project, and MS Access, with experience in ERP systems. - Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (Desirable). - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. - Effective communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
