Event Manager

Brendan Foster, President & Founder The Great Run Company is the UK’s largest mass participation sport business, hosting the world’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run, and inspiring over 200,000 participants annually across cities nationwide, alongside elite athletes. We also own FilmNova, our TV production arm, creating content for clients like BBC Sport, Channel 4, UEFA, and Olympic Broadcasting Services.
What We Do
We are the owners and operators of the Great Run Series, including the Great North Run – the world’s biggest half-marathon. Our team of event experts boast a broad range of experience in mass participation sport. As well as our owned events, we work with brands, corporates, charities, Local Authorities and Sports Governing Bodies to consult, create and deliver high quality event experiences.

Job Title: Event Manager
Department: Operations
Location: Gateshead / Hybrid
Job Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and oversee event projects to meet objectives. Lead key operational activities to ensure smooth event execution. Collaborate on sponsorships and charity village planning. Manage event budgets and stakeholder requirements. Ensure participant safety and conduct risk assessments. Work with senior management on project goals and execution.
Required Qualifications
· 3+ years’ live event experience, with knowledge of UK road running and safety.
· Experience managing external stakeholder meetings and working within a project framework.
· Event team and budget management experience.
· Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
· Able to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and manage tasks independently or in a team.
· Detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn.
· Willing to work weekends, with a full UK driving license.
Desirable:
· Experience with mass participation or televised events (e.g., running, cycling, triathlon).
