Waking Night Carer Location: Two Sites Based in Marston Green Salary: £12.21 per hour (from April 1st) Contracted Hours: 40 hours per week Night shift hours: 20:15 - 07:15 (with a 1-hour unpaid break; each shift is 10 hours) Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Job Overview: We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Waking Night Carer to join our team and support individuals with learning disabilities across two locations in Birmingham. As a Waking Night Carer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of service users during the night. This is an ideal role for individuals who are experienced in working in a care home environment and are passionate about providing high-quality care. Key Responsibilities: Monitoring and Supporting Overnight Safety: Stay awake and alert throughout the night, monitoring the well-being of all service users, ensuring their safety, and responding to any immediate needs (e.g., mobility assistance or preventing falls). Personal Care and Hygiene Assistance: Provide support with personal care tasks, such as assisting with toileting, changing incontinence pads, or helping with positioning to ensure comfort and dignity. Assisting with Night-time Routines: Support service users with their bedtime routines, including preparing for bed, assisting with sleepwear, and ensuring they are settled and comfortable. Responding to Emergencies: Respond swiftly to any medical emergencies or changes in health conditions, following appropriate procedures and notifying senior staff or emergency services when necessary. Providing Emotional and Social Support: Offer companionship and reassurance to service users who may experience anxiety or discomfort during the night, creating a calm and supportive environment. Person Specification: Experience: A minimum of 6 months' experience working in a Learning Disabilities Care Home environment. Skills and Qualities: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to stay alert and responsive throughout the night. Compassionate, empathetic, and patient nature, with a genuine desire to improve the lives of others. Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work independently when required. Comfortable with personal care tasks and supporting service users with dignity and respect.
