Job Description
Pipe Stress Engineer Submarines
We are currently looking for Engineers to join the Plant Structural Integrity department in Rolls-Royce Submarines. The Submarines business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet.
As a Pipe Stress Engineer, you will play a supportive role in the design, manufacture, and safety justification of Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) pipework and components. Working closely with other teams and specialist functions, you will carry out ASME B&PVC Section III, NB-3600, and NCD-3600 analyses of pipework systems and produce supporting technical substantiation reports.
The work is interesting and varied; you will be relied upon to respond rapidly to emergent challenges, providing a vital service to the Submarines enterprise. The department also covers other forms of structural integrity assessment using FEA methods, presenting further opportunities for development.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits, including bonus, employee support assistance, and employee discounts. Hybrid working is available, allowing a balance between office and remote work.
What you will be doing:
* Working with transient specifications, pipework arrangement drawings, CAD models, and fluid systems specifications to undertake ASME Section III NB and NCD pipework analyses.
* Producing pipework substantiation documentation in support of safety case development covering the whole plant life cycle.
* Using assessment work to develop and substantiate pipework designs.
* Communicating the method and outcome of assessments clearly to a range of audiences.
* Responding to emergent issues as part of a dynamic team.
Who we are looking for:
* Qualified to degree level, or with equivalent experience, in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline.
* Able to prioritize tasks and work effectively on multiple projects.
* Demonstrate interest and expertise in pipework structural integrity analysis.
* Able to communicate effectively with various partner and customer functions.
Desirable:
* Previous experience as a pipe stress engineer within the nuclear industry.
* Familiarity with Autopipe Nuclear and/or pipestress (PepS) analytical software.
* Good IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data manipulation tools.
* Experience in an industry where safety is a priority.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution and working toward chartership.
To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently have this in place. You must hold UK nationality, and dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks.
