TeacherActive is proud to be working with a SEND school in Southampton, supporting with their recruitment for a SEND Learning Support Assistant / LSA. The setting is centred on pupil’s development, as well as an intrinsic desire to make progress both academically and with their own emotional, social and behavioural skills.
The outstanding school is seeking a passionate team player to take on this long term role. The successful SEND Learning Support Assistant / LSA will bring a new dimension and skill set to this role, be keen to develop their own skills to adapt to the children’s individual needs and have a positive impact on the wider school.
The position will involve working with students across all Key Stages with diagnosis of ASD, attachment difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs and challenging behaviours. A proactive thinker with the ability to take control of situations confidently is necessary. You will work either 1:1 or in small groups and provide emotional and academic support that enables them to access their education, this includes breaking down learning, using strategies and behaviour plans and applying therapeutic techniques.
The successful SEND Learning Support Assistant / SEND LSA will have:
1. Build strong, supportive relationships with young people to assist them academically and emotionally.
2. Model high standards of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
3. Support the safeguarding and welfare of children by adhering to school policies and procedures.
4. Assist students in adhering to their individual behaviour plans and strategies.
5. Act proactively to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
6. Communicate effectively with the Senior Leadership Team, staff, parents, and external agencies when needed.
7. Maintain accurate and detailed student records in a timely manner.
8. Demonstrate initiative and creativity when identifying and solving problems.
