The role of Teacher of Drama/Performing Arts and English is offered on a full time, permanent basis. We are advertising due to growth and development. Main Responsibilities:
As a Teacher of Drama/Performing Arts and English at The Levels School, you will be working under the direction of the Performing Arts Lead and English Lead, and alongside the SENDCo in delivering the Drama/Performing Arts and English curriculum. The English Curriculum up to GCSE is delivered and adapted for students with SpLD and those who have a range of complex, specific learning, social communication and emotional difficulties.
You will need to be a qualified Teacher with knowledge and/or experience of SEND including knowledge of the National curriculum and the teaching of Key Stage 3 Drama/Performing Arts.
Drama GCSE is taken by a small number of students. This can vary each year depending on the cohort. The successful candidate will need to be motivated and enthusiastic with strong pedagogical skills. You will be joining a committed and dedicated team that have high expectations for students and work hard to ensure they achieve their maximum outcomes.
A passion for your subject is important, as is an enthusiasm for working with students to assist them on their journey, which may have included difficulties in accessing English as it is taught in a mainstream environment. The ability to work as part of a team, is as important as experience, as you will need to inspire as well as teach.
We are looking to appoint a flexible, adaptable and dedicated individual with experience in working with students with SpLD and some SEMH difficulties as a result of their barriers to learning. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates from mainstream or specialist education.
Following an induction and training programme, your duties will include:
* Facilitate and encourage learning which enables students to achieve
* Preparing, planning and assessing teaching sessions whilst maintaining an awareness of curriculum developments
* Making assessments of educational attainment, setting challenging yet achievable targets
* Build relationships with all young people, which will encourage their interest and participation in their education
* Creating an environment which is stimulating and purposeful for all students to promote teaching and learning using a variety of multisensory teaching techniques
* Be aware of the individual needs of each student and work towards providing as near to a bespoke 1:1 teaching experience as possible within small classes of up to 8 students.
Ideal Candidate:
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status
* Experience teaching Drama/Performing Arts and/or English
* Can work as an integral member of a team that puts student learning and wellbeing at the centre
* Be experienced in working within a SEND setting or with predominantly with SEND students
