Job overview
A Vascular Sonographer post is available, representing an opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team, carrying out clinical examinations and playing an important role in the management of patients with vascular disease.
You will perform and independently report on a wide range of vascular ultrasound examinations. These will include Upper and lower limb arterial and venous scans, carotid and aorta scans, pre-operative vein mapping and arterio-venous fistulas.
Main duties of the job
Vascular Ultrasound is situated at our Freeman Hospital site, however work is also undertaken at our Royal Victoria Infirmary and Community ultrasound sites. We also provide the vascular ultrasound service for our neighbouring trusts in Durham (County Durham and Darlington NHSFT) and Sunderland (South Tyneside and Sunderland NHSFT), and some travel to these sites will be required.
For appointment at Band 7 you will need to possess a degree or equivalent (e.g. DCR, HNC) in a relevant physical, physiological or biological science, together with either STP Vascular Scientist, Post Graduate Cert/Diploma in Vascular Ultrasound or equivalent. Evidence of relevant clinical experience required.
Candidates nearing qualification as a Vascular Sonographer may also be considered.
Overseas candidates from countries regarded as non-majority English speaking will need to provide evidence of proficiency to IELTS Level 7 (C1) or equivalent.
The post holder will have specialist knowledge and experience in vascular ultrasound scanning.

Qualifications & Education
* A recognised Degree in relevant subject or equivalent
* Appropriate post-graduate certificate/degree at master’s level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge
* The post holder must be on the HCPC Register or equivalent Voluntary Register
* SVT Accredited Vascular Scientist
Knowledge & Experience
* Good knowledge of IT software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience of applying them
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and safety principles relating to the working area
* Specialist knowledge and skills in medical or scientific equipment relevant to working area
* Knowledge of Governance issues including ethical and regulatory considerations
* In-depth specialist knowledge and understanding of the application of physical and engineering sciences to medicine
* Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology relevant to the area of work
* Experience of quality assurance, research and audit
* Experience in teaching
* Principles of clinical governance
* Working knowledge of patient information and management systems
