A unique and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join a specialist school in High Peak as a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant. This role is perfect for someone who is dedicated, compassionate, and eager to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young adults with complex learning needs.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing tailored support to students aged 2 to 19 years with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), communication challenges, and complex behaviours associated with learning disabilities. Working within small class sizes and with high staff-to-pupil ratios, you will:
Collaborate with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons.
Support pupils in their learning and personal development, ensuring their needs are met with care and sensitivity.
Assist with communication strategies, including the use of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and valued.
Contribute to the management of complex behaviours, implementing strategies that promote positive outcomes.
Adapt to the specific needs of individual pupils, including sensory, physical, and cognitive requirements.
About You
The ideal SEND Teaching Assistant will have:
Experience working with children or young adults with SEND, particularly PMLD or complex learning needs.
A genuine passion for working in a specialist educational setting and a commitment to making a meaningful impact.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn about alternative communication methods and sensory integration strategies.
Patience, empathy, and resilience to support pupils in overcoming challenges and achieving their full potential.
