ERM, the world's largest pure play sustainability consultancy, is hiring into our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region Cultural Heritage team Hybrid working available from any of our 16 UK offices or Dublin, however you’ll be best connected with your team if based in Cardiff, Manchester, or London. This exciting opportunity will have you working on major infrastructure projects both in the UK and internationally, assessing and managing impacts on cultural heritage in its widest sense. We are currently involved in large-scale terrestrial and marine renewables, infrastructure, and mining developments across the UK and Ireland, as well as in locations such as Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Guyana, Poland, and Scandinavia. You will provide the highest possible quality of technical services and advice to our clients in accordance with the latest statute, policy, and guidance provisions, assessing the cultural significance of affected heritage sites, identifying and mitigating potential impacts, and working with regulatory authorities to identify sustainable solutions. Our work relates to all kinds of cultural heritage including buried archaeological remains, historic buildings, historic landscapes, and marine archaeology. You’ll initially focus on contributing to large-scale Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for infrastructure and renewables projects across the UK, and contribute to a wide range of desk-based studies and field surveys. In the longer term, you’ll have the opportunity to travel as this role involves overseas work – collecting data, carrying out site visits, producing ESIAs, and monitoring conformance with international lender standards. About you You’ll be degree qualified in archaeology, heritage management, or similar, and have some consultancy work experience under your belt to succeed in this role. You’ll possess knowledge of the archaeology and heritage of the UK, and the planning system as it relates to heritage protection and the requirements of EIA. You should be familiar with the concepts of cultural heritage significance, impact/harm, setting and intangible cultural heritage, as well as the latest archaeological prospection techniques: from remote sensing using satellite imagery and LiDAR to field techniques, from geophysical survey to trial trenching. You should also have a working knowledge of GIS, enabling you to assemble, order, and interpret spatial information. Ideally, you’ll have a good understanding and some experience of conducting archaeological field investigation. You’ll need a full current driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK, and a willingness to travel internationally. (Please confirm driving licence status in your CV/application).
