About the role
We are expanding our Engineering Team and looking for a Project Engineer to deliver projects in our Suffolk operating region. We have an exciting multi-year programme of major investment to increase resilience in our water services, whilst enhancing and protecting our environment.
Our Projects are spread across several of our clean water sites around our Suffolk region, which is close to Norwich and Ipswich. Our site and project locations include Lowestoft, Barsham, Rickinghall and Saxmundham. Travel between Project sites across the Suffolk operating region We offer flexible working, with the potential to have a hybrid working approach balancing work-from-home, in our offices (which are spread across all our operating areas) and at Project sites.
You will work for a Principal Engineer, and work as part of a team of Project Engineers within the Assets Directorate at Northumbrian Water. The Engineering team are accountable for providing Engineering support and input to our construction projects, writing technical standards, supporting option studies, ensuring our contracts are correctly set up for success, working with the Project Management team and Contractors to design and build our projects and ensuring commissioning and handover is done correctly. You will play a key part in ensuring delivery of safe, reliable assets that provide reliable and affordable water and wastewater services for our customers.
You will operate as a trusted project professional, ensuring NWG makes the best TOTEX and value-based decisions with asset longevity at the forefront of delivery. The role requires a strong Health and Safety focus to implement safe systems of work and address any practices which pose a risk to colleagues. You will support the onsite delivery of construction projects through stakeholder management of the supply chain and ensure the assets in construction maintain operational performance whilst optimising the integration of new equipment into our asset base.
In support of our position as a Capable Owner, you will champion the Engineering Team as a technical authority, providing technical challenge where needed, particularly in the early lifecycle stages, ensuring accurate and robust technical documentation and contractual documentation is in place at the earliest stages. This includes providing engineering assurance throughout the lifecycle to ensure our contractors design and build assets that are fit for purpose and then ensuring the handover to Operations is effective. You will provide technical advice and guidance as needed to business stakeholders.
About you
You will join a multi-disciplinary team which means we have a wide range of technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation, geo-technical, environmental and process.
The successful candidate will have experience working effectively as part of a team. This means you will be prepared to ask questions and offer answers and advice whilst demonstrating the ability to work independently and autonomously.
You will demonstrate a structured approach and capability to offer impartial and balanced engineering views, supported by data and analysis where appropriate. Ideally you will have significant experience in water/utilities sector or transferrable knowledge and skillset from other sectors, combined with a willingness and capability to learn, and be able to demonstrate effective leadership, communications skills and company values. This will include developing and driving team initiatives in areas such as process governance, technical assurance, innovation and HSEQ.
In addition, you will be able to build strong and successful stakeholder relationships within the Engineering Team as well as other departments including Capital Delivery, Asset Intelligence, Maintenance and Operational Teams.
