Job Title: Cook (Fixed Term Contract - 12 months).
Location: Deafway, Brockholes Brow, Preston, PR1.
Salary: £22,495.00 (£14.42 per hour).
Working Hours: 30 hours per week following a Rota shift pattern which averages 3.5 days per week including weekends.

Deafway is a charitable organisation which supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing people both within the community and residential. We have a 34-bed care home providing specialist support for Deaf residents, offering a supportive and inclusive environment. We provide high-quality care, including nutritious and delicious meals tailored to our residents' needs. Additionally, we plan and cater for external community events.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Under the direction of the Catering Manager, contribute to the provision of a high-quality catering service, including some staff oversight, that meets the needs of residents, staff, other service users and visitors and to assist as necessary in the day-to-day operations within the catering department.
2. During contracted hours, responsible for all aspects of food preparation, presentation, service and staff supervision.
3. To monitor the setting up and replenishing of the food service counters as and when required.
4. To ensure the security of stores.
5. To accept deliveries and complete associated paperwork.
6. Respond appropriately to comments and complaints.
7. To be prepared to assist at Deafway catered events which may sometimes be outside of normal working hours.
8. To assist in the preparation and placement of food orders as required and assist in maintaining stock levels required.
9. To assist in completion of stock taking, cash checks and daily sales control as required.
10. To ensure all legislative paperwork is completed on each shift.
11. To report, and where possible take action, for any incidents, fire, loss, theft, damage, unfit food or other irregularities.
12. Ensure that environmental health, food hygiene and health and safety regulations are in place and adhered to, including the completion, and recording of necessary inspections and checks.
13. To ensure the kitchen and restaurant cleaning schedules are adhered to and assist in the task’s completion.
14. To be willing to complete training that is required for your personal and professional development, also appropriate training pertaining to the maintenance and development of the standards within the catering department.
15. To carry out end of shift locking up procedures ensuring security of buildings, where necessary.
Qualifications/Experience:
1. Knowledge of fundamental cooking methods.
2. Ability to chop, slice, and dice ingredients efficiently and safely.
3. Understanding of hygiene practices and food safety regulations to prevent contamination.
4. Ability to manage time effectively to ensure dishes are prepared and served promptly.
5. Ability to create and adapt recipes and present food attractively.
6. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Catering.
