Job summary The Physician Associate will work within the Emergency Department. Post holders will be required to work a variety of shifts covering a 7-day rota, 24 hours per day. Post holders will form part of the multidisciplinary team. They will work cross-site between Epsom and St Helier Hospitals in both adults and paediatrics. They will join our large team of 16 PAs working in the Emergency Department with further PA's working across the hospitals in different specialities. The trust has employed PAs since 2011 and has long established links with the local university. You will have a dedicated Consultant Supervisor and Lead PA who will oversee your development. You will also be granted 4 hours per week non-clinical time for CPD and 5 days per year for study leave. We also run a successful self roster system allowing for flexibility. We are looking to recruit Full-Time Physician associates to join our team. Prior clinical experience of at least 1 year is preferable It is essential that the post holder has evidence of membership to the Managed Voluntary Register as well as National Exam Certification/Recertification (either passed or at minimum holding a pending National Exam date or results). Candidates without these criteria will not be considered. Salary: plus antisocial working enhancements Main duties of the job The post holder will rotate through the different areas of the Emergency Department (ED), this is always under the supervision of a senior doctor (ED consultant or registrar/middle grade). These are:- Majors, Resus, UTC, SDEC, Paediatrics. Assess and examine acute emergency department patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend ongoing management/treatment. Exercise a high degree of personal autonomy when assessing and planning care for an agreed caseload of patients with a range of presenting complaints. Have, develop and maintain extensive specialist knowledge and experience in Emergency Medicine. Contribute to achieving and maintaining key performance indicators for Emergency Medicine. Support local and national audits. To ensure emergency guidelines are adhered to and to keep up to date with local protocols and pathways. Be an active participant in the development of Emergency Medicine through the Trust and contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care. To ensure confidentiality at all times. To be accountable for care given and to comply with the Fitness to Practice and Code of Conduct standard as established by the UK Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates.
