Brief Description:
Be a Catalyst for Change: Are you passionate about making a tangible impact on climate change and weather resilience in Network Rail? The Eastern region covers a third of the UK rail network and is experiencing challenging weather now and needs to be prepared for the changing future. We are offering the opportunity to shape our railway to be resilient for the mid and long-term and are creating a new capability to establish climate change and adaptation pathways planning. This role will involve engaging stakeholders from across the transport industry to focus on our vulnerabilities and come up with innovative industry-wide solutions. The role is within the Asset Management Strategy team where we work collaboratively across our complex organisation to drive change.
As the Weather Resilience Climate Change Adaptation Strategy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of railway operations in the face of climate change. This is not just a job; it's an opportunity to lead innovative projects that have a lasting impact on the environment and society. You will be at the forefront of integrating climate resilience strategies into critical infrastructure, ensuring the sustainability and safety of our railways for generations to come. Network Rail is seeking a visionary leader to spearhead the development and implementation of our region's weather resilience and climate change adaptation strategy.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities:
1. Strategic Direction: Guide the region's executive team with timely, compelling advice on weather resilience and climate change, providing vision and motivational leadership.
2. Objective Setting: Establish long-term objectives and frameworks for weather resilience and climate change delivery.
3. Strategy Development: Lead the creation, implementation, and maintenance of the region's weather resilience and climate change adaptation strategy.
4. Process Integration: Embed weather resilience and climate change requirements into business processes to meet Network Rail's strategic objectives and investment criteria.
5. Stakeholder Liaison: Negotiate with statutory bodies and stakeholders, balancing business needs and reputation risks.
6. Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant statutes, regulations, and standards, and provide recommendations based on consultations.
7. External Engagement: Influence emerging standards and regulations, represent Network Rail, and determine research and development needs.
8. Risk Management: Implement Network Rail's risk process for weather resilience and climate change, informed by current knowledge and incident learnings.
9. Capability Development: Provide weather and climate input into capability frameworks, specify competencies, and oversee the development of the region's weather management capability.
Essential:
1. Relevant degree
2. Detailed knowledge of weather resilience and climate change adaptation within the context of transport and/or infrastructure businesses
3. Influencing - ability to influence decision makers at all levels of seniority
4. Leadership - ability to lead staff/teams to deliver results
5. Excellent understanding of current legislation and regulation relating to weather resilience and climate change adaptation.
6. Proven experience in developing strategy relating to weather resilience and climate change in a complex organisation.
7. Proven experience of successful engagement with senior business leaders and policy makers.

Salary: £71,163 to £81,661 per annum.

Drugs & Alcohol test: All prospective candidates offered a conditional role will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test.
