The post is an established 10 PA post within the Gloucestershire Cellular Pathology Laboratory based at Cheltenham General Hospital. The contract will be held by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Subspecialty reporting in subspecialty teams is longstanding within the department. This post will contribute to at least one of the following subspecialties: gastrointestinal, urology, lung, head and neck, dermatology, breast and lymphoreticular, and non-gynaecological cytopathology.
Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointees will be managerially responsible to the Clinical Head(s) of Department of the Gloucestershire Histopathology Department and to the Specialty Director, the Director of Service, the Medical Director, and the Trust Board. The management arrangements are consistent with the principles stated in the Strategic Review of Pathology Services and meet current UKAS standards.
Job responsibilities
Each appointee will be responsible for cut up, reporting, and MDT meeting attendance within subspecialty teams of consultants. Development of appropriate subspecialty interests will be encouraged and supported.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
* To be on the GMC register with a current licence to practice.
* To conform to all revalidation requirements: applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Non-UK trained applicants will be required to show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT.
* To participate in the provision of a first-class cellular pathology service.
* To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.
* To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans.
* To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* On Specialist Register for Pathology via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights, FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
* Teaching qualification.
Clinical Experience
* Proven clinical skills in cellular pathology.
Audit and evidence based practice
* Experience in devising, conducting and applying audit results.
* Training in evidence-based practice.
* Willing and able to work with colleagues in management and other specialties to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable service.
* Familiar with clinical governance.
* A willingness to accept responsibility.
* Awareness of current relevant developments within the NHS.
