Senior Consultant – Nectar360 (FMCG Data & Insight)
What is the role about?
Based in Holborn Sainsbury’s Support Centre, an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant has become available to join the fun, energetic & collaborative Data & Insight team, part of the Nectar360 team. You will be responsible for leading the generation of revenue opportunities and managing the delivery of consultancy projects to FMCGs.

What you will be doing:
Commercial Leadership
Management Responsibility
Motivate, manage, develop and retain a team of commercial and delivery focussed consultants
Handle any employee related issues that may arise within the team in conjunction with HR
Recruit the best talent available, outlining job specifications, identify and refer top talent in the market.
Support Lead Consultants to commercially lead the team.
Support Consultants in identifying consultancy opportunities for key accounts.
Ensure Consultants have all relevant Sainsbury’s knowledge to support consultative selling with suppliers.
Support writing of insight strategies that align to the overall client annual plans.
Support Lead Consultants with delivery leadership of the team.
Provide thought leadership in producing high impact consultancy projects, and the ways to present these back to the client.
Manage client relationships by developing category aligned strategies
Identify consultancy opportunities in key accounts through:
Ability to frame client issues/questions, overlaying the Sainsbury’s trading context, and scoping the necessary analysis techniques needed to solve them
Identifying insight portfolio gaps across clients within the account group
Having a clear understanding of the client business & the category in which they operate
Having a detailed knowledge of the best practice consultancy
Ensure regular contact and engagement with clients; including regular onsite/Virtual time with strategic Clients, where applicable
Commercial responsibility for Sainsbury’s Insight Platform, EPOS, and Consultancy revenue
Work closely with commercial team to develop & implement consultancy strategies that align to the overall client annual plan
Lead the development of the key client senior contact strategy across consultancy
Align to Sainsbury’s priorities
- Understand and align to the Sainsbury’s strategy and what this means for our clients
- Understand the role of trading insights and other central functions
Executional Excellence Leadership
Responsible for ensuring all proposals meet the brief, are quoted correctly and meets the Client brief.
Project manage the delivery of projects ensuring that work meets the brief, is of a high standard and is delivered smoothly and efficiently.
Work cross functionally to delegate, coordinate and support analysts and market research teams as required to deliver against agreed timings and budgets.
Responsible for ensuring that the Data & Insight team are working efficiently by defining, scoping and rolling our new ways of working and tool development to make project delivery effective and efficient.
Be the champion for executional excellence within the Insights team
Stay abreast of new developments in FMCG, retail and insight analytics thought industry journals and appropriate conferences and events. Work with Planning and Commercial teams to add value and provide solutions for clients, working closely with the innovation team when solutions require automation.
Support the Sainsbury’s Insight Platform helpdesk and training plan
Learn the SIP system and support clients through training.
Support raising the visibility of customer data within Nectar360 and Sainsbury’s
Develop effective cross-functional relationships with key decision-makers within the business.
Work closely with planning function to ensure all Nectar360 opportunities are shared.
What we would like you to have:
University degree – equivalent work experience
Collaborative and comfortable communicating with internal colleagues and external clients
Experience of working in customer insights using analytics and market research or a marketing function – Retail, FMCG or consultancy background preferred
Relationship building skills with clients
Data literate and able to turn data into a narrative
A passion for “the customer”
Well organised with attention to detail
Able to present effectively
Self-motivated with an understanding of analytics
