This is an opportunity to join the highly regarded Adult Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Directorate in Newham. The post has become available due to the substantive post-holder leaving the Trust. The post holder will work alongside two other liaison consultant psychiatrists in the Newham Mental Health Liaison and Psychological Medicine Service. A service for adults of working age and older adults based at Newham University Hospital, providing a comprehensive ageless liaison psychiatry service across A& E and inpatient settings.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the Newham psychiatry liaison team. The vacancy has arisen as the result of the current substantive post-holder leaving the Trust. The post-holder will clinically supervise trainees in psychiatry in addition to non-medical members of the MDT. The post-holder will provide liaison psychiatry care across the range of contexts in NUH and will develop close working relationships with colleagues working in acute care in NUH. Their primary focus will be in liaison related to mental health care for older persons - although cross cover and working collaboratively with general liaison psychiatry colleagues is essential to the effective delivery of the service.

Qualifications
Essential
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months (older adult or dual older adult/adult)
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty

* An understanding of relevant Government guidelines, targets and legislation

* Excellent experience of operation of older adult mental health service
* Assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health and psychological disorders with evidence-based interventions
* Assessment of cognitive impairment and diagnosis of dementia and delirium

* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
