Main duties of the job
Your role as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) is to work alongside registered nurses as part of the ward or department team to provide care to patients. The types of duties include:
1. Washing and dressing patients
2. Serving patients meals
3. Assisting with feeding patients when necessary
4. Helping people to mobilise
5. Assisting patients with toileting
6. Bed-making
7. Generally assisting with patients' overall comfort
8. Monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight
Acting with compassion, you will put patients at the centre of all you do. You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers. This role will require you to work variable hours on a rota including nights and weekends. You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
1. You will assist with washing and dressing patients, using hoists as appropriate.
2. You will assist with serving meals and feeding patients, including reporting on their intake and recording on charts as appropriate.
3. You will assist with toileting, escorting patients to and from the lavatory and recording outputs where necessary.
4. You will assist with monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
5. You will assist with patients' mobilisation, ensuring a safe environment and using appropriate techniques.
6. You will make beds and help to ensure the ward/department is kept clean, tidy, and safe.
7. You will communicate with patients and their relatives with care and compassion.
8. You will help to ensure that patients are kept comfortable and receive personalised care.
9. You will be involved in patient booking in/admission, introducing patients to ward/department area as directed by registered nurse.
10. You will assist with the recording and safe keeping of patients' property and valuables.
11. You will assist the multi-professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
12. You will safeguard vulnerable adults.
13. You will report to the nurse in charge of the ward/department matters of concern relating to patients and the ward/department environment.
14. You will undertake duties outside your working area (e.g., delivery and collection) to assist in maintaining good communication.
15. You will ensure the privacy and dignity of patients is met at all times.
16. You will be adaptable and flexible to working in various areas of the department or ward as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Basic standard of education including Maths and English
* Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer facing environment
Desirable
* Healthcare Apprenticeship or equivalent
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting

* Ability to communicate effectively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills: verbal, listening & written
* Legible handwriting.
* Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of confidentiality
* Self-awareness in terms of assessing own knowledge and competence and understanding your own boundaries
* Self-awareness in terms of recognising the impact of your behaviour and other people's behaviour
