We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Estate Worker to join our team on a 12 months fixed-term contract. In this role you will be working across our two sites, Devonport Leats and the Mary Tavy Hydro Leats, based in Tavistock/ Princetown area. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £28,816 per annum plus a range of excellent benefits + rewards.
About the role
In this role you will take ownership of operating and overseeing the maintenance of the leats canal, river banks and infrastructure by applying your experience in using a range of various methods such as stone walling. As an Estate Worker, you will have experience in digger driving, chainsaws, stonewalling and footpath maintenance, blended with an awareness of the countryside, willing to work in all weather conditions and knowledge of Dartmoor.
What you’ll be doing:
• Repair and maintain the water courses and sluices, using traditional methods in stone, concrete, timber, metal and granite etc.
• Tree felling, grass cutting, painting, fencing and general duties.
• Routine tasks, such as reservoir safety checks, leat inspection and trash clearance at reservoirs and intakes.
• Operation of machinery, including fixed and mobile plant including trash rake cleaners, dumpers, swing shovels, pumps, concrete mixers and grass cutting machinery etc
• Repair and maintenance of grounds and buildings.
• General building work.
• Adjustments to equipment controlling machinery such as intake gates, reservoir levels and trash rakes.
• Assist in the management of spares and stores.
What we are looking for:
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Technical skills
• H&S awareness of working safely
• Team Worker as well as the ability to work alone and unsupervised
• Good communication skills
• Ability to follow written procedures
• Experience in digger driving, stonewalling, footpath maintenance and using chainsaws
• Awareness of the countryside
• Geographic knowledge of leat systems on Dartmoor (Desirable)
• NVQ level 2 in general estates or building work (Desirable)
