GSL Education’s South Yorkshire branch is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and empathetic Behaviour Mentor to join our client schools in Wakefield. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about supporting students with challenging behaviour and helping them develop positive strategies for success, both in and out of the classroom.
Job Summary:
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work directly with students who display challenging behaviours, helping them engage with their learning, manage their emotions, and overcome barriers to success. You will provide one-on-one and small group support, working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement behaviour management strategies.
Key Responsibilities for Behaviour Mentor:
* Provide tailored support to students with challenging behaviours, helping them develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.
* Work with students individually or in small groups to support their behavioural, social, and emotional development.
* Implement behaviour management strategies and support Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs).
* Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting respectful and productive behaviour.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with students, encouraging open communication and mutual respect.
* Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to behaviour management across the school.
* Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teaching team and SENCO.
Essential Requirements for a Successful Behaviour Mentor:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviours, ideally in a school or educational setting.
* Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies to support emotional and social development.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with students who exhibit challenging behaviours.
* Ability to implement behaviour plans and interventions effectively.
* Adaptability and teamwork skills, with the ability to work flexibly within a school setting to meet the needs of students.
* A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
