What skills and experience we're looking for
You will be required to work in partnership with the Executive Principal (EP), CEO, governors, staff and key stakeholders to ensure the continuous improvement of the school and the Trust.
You will be responsible for leading and managing the school day, specific tasks and the leadership of whole school aspects, which will be determined from time to time in consultation with the EP.
The main expectations of the role are as follows:
1. SHAPING THE FUTURE
• Support the EP, CEO and governors in the future development of the school and Academy.
• Lead on quality of education, Personal Development, Behaviour and Attitudes and outcomes for the school.
• Lead by example. Work to a high standard in implementing agreed policies, priorities and expectations.
• Promote wellbeing and a culture of teamwork, in which the views of all members of the school community are valued and taken into account.
• Lead the development and co-ordination of a meaningful CPD process working alongside members of the Trust central team.
• Ensure pupil premium funding is tracked and impactful.
• Lead on operational structures, including timetable, duties and rotas.
2. LEADING LEARNING AND TEACHING
• Be accountable for the highest quality teaching through the monitoring of teaching and learning and the implementation of improvement strategies.
• Identify and challenge underperformance and ensure appropriate and effective support is provided.
• Ensure robust monitoring systems are in place, any issues are swiftly addressed and the EP notified. Monitoring to inform future training for whole staff and specific individuals.
• Establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to learning and teaching. Take a strategic role in the development of new and emerging technologies to enhance and extend the learning experience of pupils.
• Address and rapidly improve teaching and learning when issues are raised by any inspection and / or any stakeholder.
• Take responsibility for target setting and assessment across the school.
• Use data pro-actively to improve practice and outcomes for students.
• Commitment to Inclusion.
3. DEVELOPING SELF AND WORKING WITH OTHERS
• Lead the creation of a positive school ethos and culture, in which every individual is treated with dignity and respect and the safety and welfare of children and young people is paramount.
• Lead the development of collaborative approaches to learning within the school, across the academy and beyond.
• Identify any potential HR issues early and swiftly document concerns, support staff to improve and follow HR advice.
• Improve the induction process in relation to new staff.
• Set the highest expectations for your own performance and that of others.
• Engage in relevant professional development activity as necessary, with due consideration for the safe and effective running of the school.
4. MANAGING THE ORGANISATION
• Lead the school so it is a safe and happy environment in which the children and staff can learn and thrive.
• Ensure our recording mechanisms around behaviour indicators are robust and scrupulously monitored.
• Contribute to a regular review of the organisation of the school to ensure it meets statutory requirements.
• Support developing action plans in specified areas of responsibility, to bring about improvements.
• Lead the planning process in regard to the distribution of resources, to ensure they meet the school’s identified priorities.
• Lead the Performance Management of staff within the school, delegating as necessary.
• Ensure we get both value for money and the best outcomes for our children from the use of resources.
• Ensure solvency and probity and that the financial resources made available to the school are managed effectively.
• Ensure timetables, schedules and rotas contribute to the safe running of the school. Swift action to be taken to address any issues if they arise.
• Ensure government initiatives e.g. Pupil Premium, catch-up numeracy & literacy and LAC etc. are targeted appropriately, best practice sought, outcomes analysed and reported.
5. SECURING ACCOUNTABILITY
• Support the trust board in meeting its responsibility to account for the performance of the school.
• Ensure staff meet their responsibilities and accountabilities. Develop and support where necessary.
• Lead on H&S and e-safety, liaising with the facilities lead, safeguarding team and EP when appropriate.
• Report the performance of the school to key stakeholders when necessary.
• Lead in the effective use of data to track progress and raise achievement.
6. STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY
• Understand the diversity of the school community.
• Promote equality of opportunity and tackle prejudice.
• Create positive relationships and partnerships with mainstream schools and the Local Authority.
• Develop a meaningful curriculum which provides all students with opportunities to maximise their potential and secure long-lasting employment.
• Promote and model strong relationships with parents and carers, based on partnerships, to support and improve students’ achievement.
• Strengthen and promote further links with the community.
7. STUDENT SPECIFIC
• Develop the curriculum to enhance the chances of students leading fulfilled, independent lives, becoming active members of their communities and gaining sustainable employment.
• Promote students’ academic needs to ensure a balanced educational and emotional programme is agreed and implemented.
• Bespoke timetables for students to meet their individual needs and maximise their potential.
As Headteacher, you will be required to meet the general requirements of this post as specified in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. In addition, you will be required to fulfil any reasonable expectations from the EP or CEO. In the absence of the EP or CEO, you may be required to act as EP or CEO.
