At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
Head of Housing and Corporate Repairs
As the Head of Housing and Corporate Repairs, you will be a vital member of the Director of Operations’ Senior Management Team. Collaborating closely with colleagues in the Operations and the wider council engaging a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure high-performing, resident-focused services that align with the Council’s vision, priorities, and pledges.
In this role, you will oversee the strategic management and quality assurance of all repair and compliance activities across approximately 10,200 housing properties and 300 commercial buildings owned by Swindon Borough Council. Through proactive and effective leadership, you will lead the commissioning, planning, and delivery of services to meet the Council’s standards of efficiency, quality, and community satisfaction.
Your responsibilities will span a wide range of essential functions, including the oversight of routine and complex repair operations, damp and mould mitigation, and capital repair projects. You will be responsible for maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, including managing gas safety inspections, electrical testing, asbestos management, fire risk assessments, lift inspections, and water hygiene assessments. Coordinating necessary remedial work to uphold compliance and safety standards across all properties will also be key.
Your Next Role
On a day-to-day basis, you will adopt a hands-on approach to lead a dedicated team of professionals managing all aspects of the Council’s housing and corporate repairs services. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will provide clear direction and support to foster a culture of operational excellence, driving performance improvements and maintaining high standards of service.
In this role, you will prioritise innovation and continuous improvement, exploring new methods to enhance service quality, efficiency, and the Council’s reputation. Above all, you will ensure that residents remain at the heart of service delivery, with a strong commitment to meeting their needs and expectations.
Language Requirement: You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
