Job overview
Here at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Midwifery Practice Support Team. Successful candidates will primarily support New to Newcastle Midwives and Maternity Support Workers throughout the preceptorship programme as new to post, early career and internationally educated midwives and maternity support workers. The successful candidates will work alongside midwives and maternity support workers in clinical practice to acquire and consolidate skills to develop confidence and competence.
The successful candidates will be a highly motivated and experienced clinical midwife that demonstrates the Trust values and shares our drive to ensure that patients receive safe, high quality and compassionate care.
Main duties of the job
As a practice support midwife the postholder’s key role is to support the delivery of safe and high quality care within the maternity service, predominantly in the intrapartum setting. They will support new to post midwives undertaking the preceptorship programme and Band 5-6 progression pathway. They will also support simulation training within the multidisciplinary team.

Within the sphere of specialist practice:
* Is working towards advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice.
* Support the development of midwifery practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of midwifery knowledge.
* Contributes to training and education within specialist area. Support the delivery of the Maternity Services Preceptorship programme and Band 5-6 progression pathway.
* Facilitate competency based clinical skills training and assessment in practice in accordance with Trust and local requirements.
* Support insitu multidisciplinary simulation.
* Support the delivery of Trust, Local and NENC Training Needs Analysis.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
* Registered Midwife
* Current NMC registration
* Degree level study or a demonstrable level of equivalent experience
* Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship
* Degree in health-related subject
Knowledge & Experience
* Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
* Has understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding
* Some post registration experience within related specialist area of practice
* Extended clinical practice underpinned by training and assessment
* Research or audit experience
* Evidence of contribution towards education and training programmes
Skills & Abilities
* Effective report writing skills
* Effective organisation and time management skills
* Good communication / interpersonal skills
* Moving and handling patients and objects in line with Trust guidelines using appropriate aids
