Responsible to: Manager and Care Manager
Purpose: To care for the clients in a manner that respects their dignity and privacy and promotes their independence. Employees must have a caring attitude, patience, empathy, and a willingness to help. Job flexibility will be required. Employees must have a genuine desire to work with the elderly and mentally infirm, along with enthusiasm for suggestion and progress to ensure the standards and quality of care at Amberley House are maintained.
Main responsibilities:
1. To comply with the home's Health & Safety, COSHH and Environmental Health regulations.
2. To comply with the latest infection prevention regulations and practices throughout the home.
3. Attend and contribute to staff appraisal meetings.
4. To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of care and your work within the home.
5. To have a working knowledge of the home's policies and procedures.
6. To establish good relationships with the Service Users, relatives, colleagues, and other people visiting the home.
7. To assist clients in preparing for bed, including washing and undressing, offering reassurance and comfort.
8. To assist Service Users in getting out of bed, washing and dressing, carried out with patience and empathy.
9. To assist Service Users with personal care including: using the bath; foot and nail care; shampooing hair; helping a client shave; combing or brushing hair; mouth care; denture care; helping a Service User use the toilet facilities including catheter care and incontinent aids.
10. To carry out regular checks throughout the night, taking into account the Service Users' privacy.
11. To carry out regular security and fire protection checks throughout the night.
12. Helping the Service Users with physical and mental activity, this could involve talking to them, taking them out for a walk or day trip, reading to them, writing on their behalf, and assisting with their hobbies and recreational activities.
13. To carry out all occupational therapies as dictated by the Activity Reports.
14. To participate and coordinate meaningful activities and support external entertainers in the home.
15. To complete daily, accurate and factual documentation on the caredocs system.
16. To obtain specimens for analysis (blood, urine, faecal, and sputum) only if trained and confident in performing these duties.
17. Assist with serving meals and other domestic duties including food preparation in the evening and laundry throughout your shift. Assist Service Users with eating their meals if required.
18. To communicate to the registered manager if any serious or unsafe events occur.
19. Answer emergency bells, greet visitors, answer the telephone and door.
20. To have a working knowledge of the home's emergency procedures.
21. Ensuring care notes and any other form of written report that affects your work are read and kept up to date.
22. Attend internal and external training as required and complete all allocated mandatory training within your probation period.
23. Maintain a smart and professional appearance.
24. Undertake a responsible attitude towards economy, care of equipment, and property.
25. Work alongside other colleagues to ensure safe practices are being carried out on every shift.
26. To ensure all residents receive person-centred quality care.
27. Commitment to supporting and promoting independence for service users on a short-term contract.
28. Understanding and ability to professionally support individuals and their families where EOL or palliative care is in place.
Note: In addition to the responsibilities listed above, it may be necessary to perform other duties not listed. Consideration will be given to your skills and status when requesting you to perform these duties.
Pay: £11.87-£13.02 per hour
