As we continue to expand, we seek an experienced Health, Safety, and Well-Being Adviser to help maintain and enhance our safety and well-being culture and ensure compliance across our delivery programme.
Role Overview:
As our Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Adviser, you will be responsible for all health, safety, and wellbeing matters across our business. You will also develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures, ensuring we meet all regulations, industry standards, and client requirements. This role is critical in embedding a proactive safety and wellbeing culture within our workforce and supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain H&S policies and management systems ensuring compliance with HSE regulations and Water Industry Health & Safety standards.
2. Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
3. Provide advice, guidance, coaching, and feedback.
4. Lead and support investigations into accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents, implementing corrective measures to prevent reoccurrences.
5. Deliver H&S training, toolbox talks, and safety briefings specific to the operations team.
6. Monitor and report H&S performance to drive continuous improvement.
7. Engage and collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies (e.g., HSE, Environment Agency, Water Companies) to ensure safety compliance on all projects.
8. Keep up to date with legislation, industry developments, and best practices, particularly within utility frameworks and water industry safety requirements (e.g., Safe Digging Practices, PAS 128, NJUG Guidelines).
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Degree/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
2. NEBOSH National Certificate/Diploma in Construction Health & Safety (or equivalent).
3. CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or equivalent preferred.
4. Knowledge of water and utilities sector regulations, including Confined Space Regulations, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).
5. Experience in but not limited to e.g. Working at Height, excavation safety, street works (NRSWA).
6. Proficiency in risk management, hazard identification, and method statement reviews.
7. Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
8. Experience working with ISO-certified management systems (9001, 14001, 45001).
