Main duties of the job
Oakfield Street Surgery are looking to recruit a Medical Secretary to join our busy team. The successful candidatewill provide administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth runningof the practice. The position available upto 24 hours per week, including full days on Thursday and Friday
Previousexperience of working within a primary or secondary care setting is desirable,but we encourage applications from candidates who have transferable skills andwillingness to undertake suitable training to upskill if required. The post issubject to a DRB check
Youmust be organised, self-motivated and forward thinking, with excellent communicationskills. It is important that the candidate is confident, empathetic towardspatients contacting the practice and can remain calm under pressure whilstmulti-tasking. You will also be required to deal with queries and GP requests.The candidate must be enthusiastic and computer literate. Knowledge of medicalterminology would also be an advantage.
About us
Weare an innovative and growing surgery based in Ystrad Mynach, which lies inCaerphilly County Borough. We have along history of successfully training GP registrars and started teachingmedical students again last year.
Thesurgery is very busy and has approximately 13,500 patients. We cover Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed, CefnHengoed, Penpedairheol and Maesycwmmer.We also have some remaining patients in Nelson, Gelligaer andTir-y-birth. This population is forgedfrom ex-mining communities and there are some pockets of significantdeprivation in our area.
We have 6 partners, 4 salaried GP's, an advanced Nurse Practitioner, 3 practice nurses and 2 pharmacists GPs supported by a management team.
YstradMynach is a beautiful village. Weare close to the local bus and train stations.There a number of small businesses that offer a variety of products and services, local cafes, takeaways, as well as a Spar; Premier, Lidl and Tesco.

Main duties of the job
Provide a high quality secretarial and administration service tothe Practice and Patients.
Efficient fast and accurate processing and prioritising of referralletters from both NHS eReferrals and the private sector using a digitaldictation system.
Effectively operate the ereferrals computer system.
To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls tofacilitate timely and appropriate communication
Liaise with professionals staff patients and other organisationsto assist with the resolution and administration of queries.
Franking post and taking to the Post Office daily.
To ensure adherence to Practice policies and proceduresincluding quality and diversity information governance H&S andconfidentiality.
To provide cover for members of the secretarial team duringperiods of sickness and annual leave.
Any other duties as required.

Essentials
Previous Secretarial experience using a digital dictationsystem.
Excellent touch typing skills.
High standards of numeracy and literacy.
Strong IT skills.
