Job Summary
Trains and supervises an assigned group of camp counselors. Plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the counselors within the camping program. Ensures the quality of programs and safety of counselors and youth at all times during camp. Provides guidance and role modeling to counselors and ensures safety and a positive experience for counselors and campers.
Essential Functions
1. Participates in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer.
2. Leads devotional activities with campers in cabin.
3. Prays with campers as needed and accompanies campers who come to the alter during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session.
4. Supervises and organizes an assigned group of Camp Counselors during scheduled and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
5. Provides spiritual guidance and encouragement to counselors.
6. Trains Counselors in proper methods of leading groups of campers; answers questions during camp and follows-up to ensure understanding of training.
7. Trains Counselors in proper safety of campers based on established camp rules and regulations.
8. Anticipates safety hazards and initiates contact with the ADYS/Camp Director to confirm issues are resolved.
9. Analyzes the strengths and challenges of each Counselor and documents the same for the Camp Director’s review.
10. Promotes and stimulates participation of Counselors in assigned activities to ensure a pleasant camp experience for campers.
11. Prepares the daily schedule for Counselors to ensure appropriate coverage of campers at all times; confirms Counselors receive adequate break times.
12. Handles camper discipline problems; serves as dorm monitor for staff dorms.
13. Available for camper/counselor consultation.
14. Assists Counselors with handling campers that need special attention.
15. Exhibits control of the campers in the absence of the assigned Counselors when needed and displays proper discipline techniques.
16. Ensures the accountability, security and safety of youth participating in camp activities; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
17. Verifies cabin roster each week.
18. Checks all cabins nightly to be sure all campers are in and ready for bed.
19. Reports any problems to ADYS/Camp Director.
20. Maintains a detailed record of discipline problems and actions taken for campers.
21. Be prepared to take over for the Counselor in the event of an emergency.
22. Conducts cabin inspection and gives a report on cabin inspection to Counselors and campers.
23. Maintains the cabin materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money and supplies necessary for cabins.
24. Reviews and follows-up on reports submitted by the Counselors; provides summary of occurrences to the ADYS/Camp Director.
25. Supervises the cleanliness of the cabins in accordance with established sanitary standards.
26. Corresponds with maintenance staff to ensure dysfunctional equipment is repaired in a timely manner.
27. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
28. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
29. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
30. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
31. Escorts campers to the Health Center and back to cabin activities when released by the camp medical staff.
32. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensures that campers receive nutritional and tasteful food.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development.
2. Knowledge of First Aid and C.P.R.
3. Ability to lead an assigned group of counselors.
4. Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise children and youth programs and activities.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
6. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior and enforce safety regulations.
7. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
8. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Education and Experience
Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Certifications
CPR and First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Some physical requirements of the position include endurance, climbing, standing, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Information
Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/10/2025 – 6/15/2025 and participation is required.
The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 6/16/2025-7/19/2025.
