We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has the energy and drive, together with extensive experience as a first level registered nurse with a background in acute care, to join our AKI team of nurse specialists.
The AKI team is both proactive working across the organisation on reducing the incidents/impact of AKI as well as reactive to the daily needs of the AKI inpatient population. The role works closely with the rostered consultant nephrologist but is independent and autonomous with its own daily workload.
Queens Medical Centre is part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust formed in 2006 we are now one of the biggest and busiest acute trusts in England. We have achieved both a national and international reputation for many of our specialist services including stroke, renal, neurosciences, cancer services. The major trauma centre (based at QMC) is one of a national network of specialist centres. This means the workload is always varied and always interesting.
The role will provide and lead a 5 day service, which does not include nights, and is based at Queens Medical Centre campus.
Along with your specialist nurse colleagues, and with the support of the rostered consultant nephrologist, you will manage a caseload of patients with acute kidney injury ensuring key clinical interventions are undertaken. You will be expected to liaise with the whole spectrum of the MDT to ensure all clinical measures are delivered. You will also support the increase in awareness and understanding of AKI sharing your specialist knowledge during the day-to-day interactions with individuals and teams across the trust as well as providing dedicated education sessions.

You will be responsible for the provision of delivering specialist nursing knowledge and advice on care and treatment for a defined patient group working as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team.
This role involves working as part of a specialist team involved in identifying patients with AKI using an e-alert system. This will include demonstrating expert practice and highly specialised advice in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
The role will involve education of both nursing and medical staff in the recognition and treatment of AKI.
