Job overview
We are looking for an experienced and thoughtful Psychodynamic Psychotherapist to join the Southwark Primary Care Mental Health Team Psychology and Psychotherapy Team. We want someone who can assist with the day to day running of a psychotherapy team alongside other modalities. We are looking for someone who understands (or is willing to learn) the context of a psychiatry MDT, and can work with fellow clinicians to bring out the best therapy options for patients in a context of limited resources.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
* Evidence of significant knowledge and skills in psychodynamic psychotherapy
* Experience of or interest in training in evidence based psychodynamic treatment models such as Transference Focused Psychotherapy, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy
* Skills, experience or training in supervision of psychodynamic psychotherapy
* Sound clinical risk assessment and management; formulation skills, and an ability to write assessment reports
* A commitment to active management of waiting lists and patient flow. Skills with Excel and TEAMS would be an advantage
* A commitment to taking a proactive stance in challenging racism and discrimination and supporting the development of a culturally competent service.
Main duties of the job
* To take up the role of a senior clinician in the Psychodynamic team and the Psychology and Psychotherapies team. Duties will include assisting the team with screening referrals and managing the waiting list.
* To provide 1-2 supervision groups for psychotherapy Band 7 staff, honorary psychotherapists and trainee psychotherapists.
* To provide line management for Band 7 psychotherapists.
* To provide highly specialist psychotherapy assessments, for patients referred for psychodynamic psychotherapy in Southwark PCMHT P&P. This would include planning of treatment, monitoring outcomes, liaising with referrers and recording contacts, risk and outcomes on the electronic record system.
* To offer Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and/or one of the structured Psychodynamic Psychotherapies such as Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy for Complex Care (DITCC) or Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP).
* To assist with work and projects relevant to senior clinicians in liaison with the principal psychodynamic psychotherapist and other senior staff in the team.
* To offer, where requested reflective practice, clinical consultation or other support to other professions in the wider psychiatric team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
• To provide highly specialist psychotherapy assessments, formulations and planning of interventions for clients in the service.
• To offer psychodynamic treatment for patients with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, personality disorders, offending behaviour, etc., at levels expected of a senior psychotherapist who has achieved the equivalent of a degree in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
• Experience or training in structured psychodynamic models such as Transference Focused Psychotherapy, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy will be an advantage.
• To provide culturally appropriate professional assessments and treatments.
• To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans.
KR 2 Contributing to team or service clinical functioning
• To contribute to the effective working of the team or service and to a psychotherapeutically informed framework for the service.
• To contribute to the team or service's delivery of accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
• To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
• To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with clients in order to develop and review care plans.

KR 3 Policy and service development
• To implement policies and procedures in own area of work.

KR 5 Management and supervision
• To supervise trainee and qualified psychodynamic psychotherapists.

• To offer training or teaching as required by the service.
KR 7 Record-keeping and Information Governance
• To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by Trust policies and local procedures.
• To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry.
KR 8 Research and development
• To assist with audit and QI projects relevant to reducing waiting times, as requested.
KR 9 Maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development
• To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a more senior psychotherapist according to BPC/UKCP/ EQUIVALENT and Trust guidelines.
• To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with BPC/UKCP/ EQUIVALENT and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements.
• To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies.
• To comply with BPC/UKCP/ EQUIVALENT Standards of Ethics and Proficiency, and ensure professional development in line with these.
• To adhere to the BPC/UKCP/ EQUIVALENT Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.
KR10 General

Qualifications and Professional Registration
• Entry-level qualification in Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytic Adult Psychotherapy that has been accepted by the BPC/UKCP/ EQUIVALENT for purposes of professional registration. (A/I)
• Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher.
