An exciting opportunity has arisen to join UHBW as a Consultant in Care of the Elderly. The position is mainly based at Weston General Hospital, which features 252 inpatient beds, an Ambulatory Care Centre, and a busy Emergency Department with an award-winning Geriatric Emergency Medical Service (GEMS).
We seek an enthusiastic Physician to advance Care of the Elderly services, focusing on improving patient admission processes, delivering timely and safe care, and increasing early discharges. The role involves supporting frailty admission pathways and care of medical patients.
What’s in it for you?
* Development opportunities in subspecialties
* Relocation support
* Recruitment and Retention Premium up to £20k (negotiable)
* Work in a state-of-the-art, recently refurbished facility
* Cross-site working between Weston and Bristol (specific plans to be agreed)
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their CCT. The trust supports candidates seeking to attain CESR in the UK and has a dedicated CESR champion.
The appointee will develop Care of the Elderly services, aiming to reduce unnecessary admissions, establish same-day emergency care pathways, reduce patient length of stay, and collaborate to ensure safe discharges. Teaching junior staff about elderly patient management will be a key component.
Weston General Hospital is undergoing major transformation through the Healthy Weston 2 programme, focusing on safe, high-quality emergency and planned care accessible to the community.
This is an exciting time to join the team, with opportunities for personal and professional growth, and to positively influence health and care services locally. Weston-super-Mare offers a seaside lifestyle, just a short distance from Bristol and North Somerset.
