As Head of Design, you will join and lead the design department to deliver exceptional products and solutions. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to work on exciting technical projects, overseeing the entire design process from concept to production. Our client is globally recognized as a specialist in manufacturing, developing, and designing high quality ground support equipment and specialising in comprehensive life-cycle support for aviation technologies.
Roles and Responsibilities
Designing and developing technical parts and products using SolidWorks.
Day to day leadership and management of the design team.
To plan the design office workload, allocating design resource to ensure that tasks are completed on-time, on-budget and on-quality.
To ensure that the current design processes, work flows and file structures are adhered to.
Conducting cross-functional design reviews where required.
Generating technical drawings in accordance with BS8888 and internal standards.
Overseeing design through the business workflow and into full-scale production.
Processing drawing change requests in accordance with change management procedure.
Reverse engineering components for product improvements or changes.
Supporting and working closely with other departments of the business and suppliers.
Creating documentation to support the design and certification of projects.
Ensuring all costings are aligned with design drawings
About you
Minimum HNC/HND level, or equivalent experience, in an engineering-related field.
Experience of basic 2D and 3D modelling/drawings in AutoCad or a similar application.
Proven ability to produce high-quality technical drawings, including applying GD&T to internationally recognised standards.
Proven experience of Design for Manufacture (DfM) across a range of production methods, including sheet metal, machining, and composites.
Proven success in leading and managing a design team.
Ability to quality-check drawings and resolve complex design challenges.
Problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering solutions.
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required.

Desirable Skills
Experience with PDM vaulting systems.
Knowledge of Autodesk PowerShape.
Background in stress calculations and Sigma Nesting for laser applications.
Familiarity with sheet metal welding and press brake operations.
