We are seeking an experienced Medicines Optimisation Clerk to cover Maternity leave on a 12 month fixed-term contract.
Our practice prescription service offers patients a designated team to deal with their medication requests and enquiries. The Medicines Optimisation Clerks (MOC) is the first contact for medication-related queries. Part of this role is to ensure patients are receiving high-quality care regarding medication ordering and works closely with the rest of the pharmacy and reception team to support the efficient operating of the practice.
The Medicines Optimisation Clerks will provide direct support to all practice staff in the receipt and preparation of repeat prescriptions. They will also have daily contact with patients, carers, care homes, community pharmacies and other healthcare professionals. The role requires excellent literacy and numeracy skills and will involve providing patient education on medication ordering processes where appropriate. The Medicines Optimisation Clerks must have the ability to work in a busy and changing environment. The post is ideally suited to someone who has excellent organisation and prioritising skills, combined with a high attention to detail.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way. The role will also be the first point of contact for patients calling the practice, with concerns or questions regarding their medications.
Job responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage incoming medication requests e.g. from patients, pharmacies, care homes, etc.
2. Provide the first point of contact for patients calling the practice, with concerns or questions regarding their medications.
3. Process prescription requests within the practice timeframe.
4. Allocate medication reviews to the appropriate healthcare professional when repeat medication has expired.
5. Deal with prescription queries from patients, pharmacies and other healthcare professionals either in person, online or on the telephone.
6. Collate information from medication related queries and forward to an appropriate healthcare professional in a timely manner.
7. Liaise with patients to resolve queries and support their use of medication.
8. Manage prescription requests from vulnerable or high priority patients.
9. Promotion of Electronic Prescription Service, Online Ordering and Electronic Repeat Dispensing.
10. Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternative.
11. Contribute to improving prescribing processes in practice.
12. Carry out housekeeping of repeat medication e.g. medicines synchronisation.
13. Establish and maintain administrative systems so that information is easily accessible and secure.
14. Support the role of the Clinical Pharmacy Technician and Lead Pharmacist at practice and PCN level on the delivery of Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice.
15. To be responsible for the organisation and planning of own workload to meet set deadlines.
16. To undertake learning and development to maintain the required knowledge and skills for practice-based work.
17. To carry out other duties which are appropriate to the skills and competencies of the post holder as the priorities of the service change.

* Educated to a GCSE level or equivalent
* GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above)
* Experience using SystmOne
* Experience working in this role in Primary Care
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

£11.65 an hour. Enhanced sick pay bonus scheme available.
