Job Title: SENIOR THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT WORKER

JOB SUMMARY
To lead the care team during any span of duty professionally, ensuring that a safe, effective and
efficient care service is maintained which meets the needs of children, young people and stakeholders.
To provide the highest quality therapeutic care to children and young people with mental health,
complex needs, some with learning disabilities in accordance with their assessed needs to an industry
leading standard. This is done by adopting a child-centred approach that fosters self-awareness,
personal growth and gives each person the strongest voice with regards to decision making and lifestyle
choices. To support children and young people in achieving positive outcomes as outlined in their placement
plans. To work as part of a staff team, under the supervision of management.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
* Have at least 2 years experience working with Children and young people in a residential
setting who have mental health complex needs, high level of attachment, challenging
behaviour which includes verbal and physical aggression, threats to staff, and missing from
care.
* Level 3 Health and Social Care, Children and Young People qualification or equivalent.

DUTIES
* Working with the Management team to ensure that systems and standards are maintained at a high
quality level.
* To be nominated daily shift lead, by planning organising and ensuring completion of team duties for
the day and handover to oncoming shifts.
* To motivate, support and guidance for staff on duty, on all shifts.
* To provide on call support for staff, from home on a rota basis.
* To provide quality supervision and appraisal to nominated staff members in line with staff plans and
as designated by the management team.
* Organising rotas and ensuring correct deployment of staff team, in line with safety and individual
homes budgets.
* To provide high quality care and support for children and young people in residential services and
in the community.
* To identify and follow all policies and procedures including the Codes of Practice for social care,
including Quality Standards.
* To contribute and develop quality care plans for young people.
* To actively promote and take part in social, leisure, educational, life skills, holidays and other
activities with children and young people.
* To support each young person to maintain a high standard of personal care; including intimate care,
personal hygiene, health and sexual health needs and awareness and any mobility support that is
needed.
* To support the medical health needs of children and young people, inclusive of medication
administration, medical appointments and therapeutic and mental health and wellbeing needs.
* To follow and contribute to all child-centred planning, including risk assessments.
* To assist children and young people in their preferred methods of communication; support them to
develop communication skills and communication needs.
* To contribute to positive behaviour management, including PRICE methods.
* To keep accurate daily records, following the organisation’s procedures and in line with the Data
Protection Act 1998 and confidentiality policy
* To help plan and support suitable holidays and activities for children and young people.
* When required, to drive the company vehicle(s) and to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of such
vehicles.
* When required, to key work and take on those responsibilities, including maintaining all relevant
records.
* Support children and young people to develop independent living skills in line with their placement
plan and/or leaving care plan.
* To keep accurate accounting and recording of financial expenditure and to be responsible for
monies when appropriate.
* To follow individual’s activity planners, menu plans and any shift plans that are in place.
* To contribute to the maintenance of cleanliness and Health and Safety standards by the completion
of daily domestic tasks and record-keeping.
